This ocotil­lo glowed like a can­dle­stick as seen from a dis­tance across the baja­da. Clos­er up, the bril­liance was replaced by bold reds; so, like a rain­bow, a cam­era can nev­er do jus­tice to the remark­able sub­tleties of a dis­tant light.
